Imran says his life in danger as he faces arrest in Toshakhana case

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Sunday that his life was in danger, and said that his lawyers will write a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial regarding dozens of fake cases against him,

The remarks came after the Islamabad Police reached the PTI chief's Zaman Park residence in Lahore to arrest the former premier in the Toshakhana case.

When the police arrived, Imran's Chief of Staff Senator Shibli Faraz received the warrant for the PTI chief's arrest. He informed the police that the former prime minister was not at Zaman Park

Addressing the party workers outside his Lahore residence, the former premier said that he had never “bowed before any man or institution, and will never let you do so as well”.

PTI chief said that he had called party workers to Zaman Park to pay tribute to them for the way they participated in the ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek'.

“I did not call you for my support but to thank you,” he added.

He criticized the government for rocking the economy and leaving the poor to bear the brunt of inflation.

“Put my name on the exit control list (ECL) as I am not afraid of leaving the country,” Imran said.

Imran accused the incumbent leaders of stashing their wealth overseas.

He said the current ruling coalition was given protection in legal cases by former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

PTI leadership and workers have warned of "peaceful protests" across the country if Imran Khan is arrested, warning that the move will push Pakistan further into crisis.

Earlier on Sunday, an Islamabad police team arrived at PTI chairman Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence in Lahore to arrest him after non-bailable arrest warrants were issued for him in the Toshakhana Reference.

In a series of tweets, the police said that the operation was being conducted with the cooperation of the Lahore police.
